Santa Barbara, California. Shawn Spencer, giovane figlio di
un ex poliziotto, lavora come "consulente sensitivo" con il Dipartimento di Polizia di Santa Barbara. In realtà Shawn
non è affatto un sensitivo, ma presenta delle facoltà intuitive talmente elevate, in gran parte dovute agli
"allenamenti" del padre nell'infanzia, da convincere della cosa il capo Vick ed i detective Lassiter e O'Hara.
La
collaborazione con la polizia inizia quando Shawn si intromette in un'indagine: i detective sono incuriositi dalle sue
intuizioni sul caso, al punto da sospettare che vi sia coinvolto. Per togliersi dai guai, Shawn inventa la storia dei
suoi poteri psichici.
In seguito, visto il successo ottenuto, si inventa la professione di "detective sensitivo"
aprendo con il suo amico d'infanzia, Gus, un'agenzia investigativa: la Psych.

Psych is an American detective comedy-drama television series created by Steve Franks and broadcast on USA Network
with syndication reruns on ION Television.[1] It is produced by Franks and Tagline Television's Chris Henze and Kelly
Kulchak. The series stars James Roday as Shawn Spencer, a young crime consultant for the Santa Barbara Police Department
whose "heightened observational skills"[2] and impressive detective instincts allow him to convince people that he
solves cases with psychic abilities. The program also stars Dulé Hill as Shawn's best friend and reluctant partner
Burton "Gus" Guster, as well as Corbin Bernsen as Shawn's father, Henry, a former officer of the Santa Barbara Police
Department.
